What does it mean to you to be part of Skribbl and support human-made art?

It’s important to me to support human-made art, and the people at Skribbl are great people to work with.

Describe your illustration style in three words…

I feel like I still haven’t nailed it down yet, but I would say: commentative, clean, bold

How did you get started in illustration… What’s your story?

I have always loved drawing, and have been doing it since I can remember. I only started to get serious about commercial and editorial illustration a year or two ago though, when I got a Wacom tablet.

How do you approach a new illustration?

I do a lot of research, brainstorming and doodling, then I take a photo of the sketch/sketches, put it into Illustrator/Photoshop and from there make it vector or colour it.

What inspires you to create?

I have no idea. That’s probably for a psychologist to figure out; why humans have a drive to be creative and to express ourselves.

Give us a tip for generating creative ideas?

Don’t focus on generating creative ideas. Instead be in the world, listen to podcasts, read books, go on hikes, and the creative ideas will come.

Tell us about your favourite illustration, or Skribbl topic to illustrate and why?

I don’t think I can say I have a favourite illustration. They all serve different purposes. Maybe one I did of a guy skateboarding, just because it was a spontaneous, fun personal illustration and I think captured the feeling and movement in a way that I was happy with.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to a budding illustrator, or someone just getting started?

I feel like I am still that person, haha. I recently listened to a podcast interview with Mirko Ilic and I thought his advice was very good. Listen to that episode on The Illustration Department Podcast.

What does your workspace or studio say about you?

I love my cats! Haha. Their two beds are on either side of my desk. Otherwise I just like to have a nice view of my garden and try my best to keep it clean and minimal.

Who is your favourite artist or an artist who inspires you?

This changes all the time, but I currently I love the work of Samantha Mash, Emils Salmins, Eva Faerch, Bruce Mackay, Justin Poulter, Owen Gent, Nicomi Nix Turner… There are actually too many.

Draw yourself… Can be a doodle, abstract, whatever you want!

Pete on Skribbl

‘All Things Coffee’ – A whole bunch of stuff we use to make coffee.

‘Olympic Sports’ – Illustrations of the new sports at the Olympics as well as some others that I enjoy watching. People would be able to use them for anything sports or Olympics related.
